About the instructor:

Deborah began her career at Sotheby’s New York in 1987, working in the American Paintings, Drawings, and Sculpture Department. She later served as Associate Director of Spanierman Gallery, LLC, a leading gallery for American art, where she sold works to private collectors, museums, and corporations; acquired pieces through purchase and consignment; curated exhibitions both in the gallery and at traveling venues; and managed artists’ estates.

In 2007, Deborah founded DGS Fine Art Consultants, Inc. Soon to be rebranded as Deborah Gerstler Spanierman & Associates, Inc., the firm provides comprehensive appraisal, brokerage, and advisory services. Her USPAP-compliant appraisals are prepared for insurance, estate planning and tax settlement, charitable donations, equitable distribution, collateral loans, and litigation support. Beyond valuation, she assists collectors with acquisitions and sales, market research, framing, conservation, and installation.

Deborah is a past President of the Appraisers Association of America and served on its board for 12 years. She has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Artsy, Maine Antiques Digest, and Westchester Magazine, and has appeared on Antiques Roadshow. She also serves on the Willard LeRoy Metcalf Catalogue Raisonné Project with Betty Krulik and Dr. Lisa N. Peters.

Deborah Gerstler Spanierman, AAA, brings nearly 40 years of experience to her work as a fine art appraiser and advisor. A Certified Member of the Appraisers Association of America, she specializes in 19th- and early 20th-century American paintings, drawings, and sculpture, as well as appraising Postwar, Contemporary, Emerging Art, and Fine Art Prints..
