The Center for the Preservation of Artists’ Legacies believes it is possible to instill the values that challenge today’s social-political strata by establishing a mandate for the inclusion of all levels of ability, age, ethnicity, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status/class.  CPAL is designed to address disparities within the visual arts and the lives affected by artists’ legacy challenges as we envision its future offerings.

CPAL would like to acknowledge that we work and live on unceded lands. Manahatta, or the place that is widely known as New York City, exists on the contemporary and ancestral homelands of the Canarsie, Munsee Lenape, and Wappinger people.

These Sovereign Nations and communities are still thriving here, and we continue to occupy their lands. We acknowledge and offer deep gratitude to them, as well as to the Black and immigrant communities which have helped build the city we know today, understanding that all of our pasts, presents, and futures are intertwined.
